Tips for Your Wedding Bar

Let’s Get to the Bar Talk

One of the most important aspects of a wedding to consider is the bar. Believe it or not, many of your guests come to your wedding, hyped up about the drinking aspect. How should you plan the hours of your wedding bar? Should you open it up right away? There are a lot of factors to consider, but the experts at Hidden Creek are here to help you sort through them.

Open Bar During Cocktail Hour

Our recommendation is to open up the bar immediately after the ceremony. Our ceremonies usually last about half an hour, so if the ceremony is at 5 pm, open up the bar at 5:30 pm. The moment right after the ceremony is called cocktail hour. This is a perfect time to open up the wedding bar, so your guests aren’t just awkwardly standing around waiting for you to get your wedding pictures taken.

Timeframe of Wedding Bar and Reception

We recommend only having your wedding bar opened for 4 to 5 hours. Most bartending companies include 4 hours as the standard, since that is the average time of a reception. You can add an extra hour or more for an extra cost if you’d like. The reason why we don’t recommend more than 5 hours is because then your guests can start to get a little too drunk, bored, or aggressive. You want to end your party on a high-note with a grand exit, but after 5 hours into the reception, it can start to die down a bit.

End Wedding Bar Before Grand Exit

You want to have the bar close 30 minutes before the grand exit. That gives guests enough time to get their last drink and sip on it before the grand exit. You can even have treats or cake for them to snack on, so they can start to sober up. It’s a fun and smart way to end the night!
