Wedding Planning Tips
You never fall short of questions when it comes to wedding planning. There are so many details to take care of and it’s easy to overlook some areas. That’s why Hidden Creek has created this video and more to help answer some questions and put your mind at ease. One of the questions that may come up during preparation is whether you should serve appetizers during cocktail hour? Although you never have to do something you don’t want to, Hidden Creek recommends appetizers and here’s why.
Long Travel
One of the reasons we recommend appetizers during cocktail hour is because some of your guests traveled long and far to come to your wedding. A couple of hours of driving can make your guests quite hungry. If you won’t be serving dinner until two or more hours into your reception, appetizers will keep your guests satisfied until then. Guests come to weddings expecting to be fed. They expect a full meal and some kind of finger appetizer food. It’s just part of the tradition. You don’t want to be dealing with any hangry guests at your wedding!
Drinking
You don’t want any of your guests drinking on an empty stomach. That is just setting them up for disaster. Appetizers during cocktail hour is a great way to ensure that your guests get some food into their system, and ensure that they can hang for longer. If they get drunk too fast during the reception, they will get tired and want to go home early, or they can get a little messy.
Appetizers will keep them energized and entertained, which in result will keep them at your wedding for longer since they are having fun.
Entertainment
As we mentioned above, serving appetizers during cocktail hour is a great way to keep your guests entertained, especially when you and your partner are outside taking pictures after the ceremony. You will probably spend about 45 minutes to an hour taking pictures, and your guests may get bored if they are just waiting around for you to show up to the reception. Appetizers will keep them happy and entertained while they wait!
Hidden Creek’s In-House Catering
You don’t need to spend a lot on appetizers either– Hidden Creek has some great in-house catering options that cost as low as $3 per guest!
The two popular $3 options are a fruit, cheese, and veggie buffet and a Tex-Mex chips and queso station. These are great, budget-friendly opportunities for feeding your guests and making them happy right from the start of the reception.
Hors D’oeuvres
If you are going for a more elegant reception, we also have plenty of cold hors d’oeuvres to choose from. This is just another fancy word for saying appetizers. You can have the hors d’oeuvres passed around by waiters or you can have a station full of them. Some of our options include:
- Crab canapes
- Salmon canapes
- Asparagus spears canapes
- Antipasto skewers
- Shrimp cocktail display
We also offer vegetarian and gluten-free options. Just let us know what you are looking for! Hidden Creek has catering tastings and open houses throughout the year, so make sure to stop by so you can try out the options yourselves.
